The Renowned Musician Encourages Support to Propel Together for Palestine Song to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A charity drive is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The effort aims to deliver assistance to people in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Chance for Solidarity and an "Surprise Victory"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to stand with Palestinians this festive season. He remarked the potential for an surprise number one.
“It would be fantastic if that happened, yes,” he commented. “I’m not gonna be completely disappointed if it doesn't manage to, holiday tracks are a unique phenomenon.”
Defiant Message of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's resilient spirit.
“It occupies a deeply meaningful spot for many individuals,” Barghouti explained. “The message is that I would prefer a dignified death than live a life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we seek to lead a dignified life that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Contributing Musicians
The song was recorded after a major charity concert held in late summer. Initially planned to be performed and recorded live, the piece was cut from the show due to time constraints.
The notable list of artists featured on Lullaby features a range of acclaimed names from the industry. All participated in the earlier concert, which reportedly raised a substantial amount for relief efforts.
Production and Release
Lullaby was crafted by a team of talented individuals. The single blends a fusion of the original Arabic with contemporary English verses.
The team running the campaign have emphasized that their aim is to collect the highest amount for a dedicated fund. These donations will be allocated to projects in Palestine through an established charity.
“We haven't set a specific target,” a spokesperson said. “We aim for whatever we can get. Naturally, the higher the total, the greater the impact. Every penny goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The context in the region was described as its extreme devastation, with a vast majority of infrastructure described as destroyed or damaged.
“In that context, a couple of million won't make a massive dent. But I think what does make a difference is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and proving the human dimension of the story.”
The track is set to be released this Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the benefit event will be made available for streaming on a digital service from the 19th of December.
