Person That Grabbed Ariana Grande during Premiere Barred from Singapore
A man from Australia who vaulted past a barrier and grabbed actress Ariana Grande has been sent away and prohibited from Singapore.
Johnson Wen, aged 26, was sentenced to over a week in prison for causing a public disturbance and has now been "prohibited from returning to Singapore," the country's border control stated to local media.
Wen pushed beyond security and approached aggressively the celebrity, who was present at the Asian debut for the musical adaptation on the thirteenth of November. Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo intervened to remove him from Grande.
The individual has a record of disrupting concerts and high-profile gatherings, including jumping on stage at the pop star's Australian show in this summer.
The event caused anger in Singapore, with numerous people accusing him of causing further distress to the star.
The pop star has discussed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at her performance in the English city in spring of 2017 killed over twenty people and injured hundreds.
During Wen's trial, the judge was informed he had made efforts to breach on the movie's debut on two occasions, according to Singaporean media.
He then made a follow-up try to jump the barricades. Protection personnel prevented him and restrained him.
The man subsequently shared videos thanking Grande for letting him on the carpet and said he was "free."
Law enforcement arrested him the next day and brought charges against him with disorderly conduct, to which Wen pleaded guilty.
The Presiding Judge the magistrate was cited by a news outlet as remarking that he was looking for publicity, noting that he was incorrect to assume he would not suffer any consequences.
The singer has not commented on the incident.
Cynthia Erivo discussed the event to a media outlet, saying that she "simply desired to make sure my colleague was secure."
"I think he had no intention to us danger, but you can't predict with those things, and I sought to confirm that she was alright. That was my first instinct," she commented.
