Liverpool's Manager Offers Zero Justifications and Pledges to Plot Way From Slump

Liverpool's head coach declared he needed to “examine my own performance” following the Reds suffered a sixth loss in 7 Premier League matches on their own turf to Nottingham Forest and affirmed he would discover a way out of the champions’ slump.

Nottingham Forest, fighting against the drop prior to the match, produced the largest victory at Anfield in their history as Liverpool fell to an 8th defeat in eleven fixtures in all competitions. The British record signing, the Swedish striker, was once more unnoticeable and the home side contended Murillo’s first goal should have been disallowed for comparable grounds to Virgil van Dijk’s chalked-off goal against City prior to the national team pause. But Slot conceded the buck rested with him and offered no alibis.

“No one wishes to hear me now speaking about refereeing decisions if you are defeated 3-0 in your own stadium to Nottingham Forest,” said the Reds' boss. “I ought to look at myself initially and my squad, but it does show you how a goal can change the flow of a match. Before I was just hoping for us to net a strike. Later we barely generated any chances.

“Naturally there is a path forward, especially with the talented footballers we have. Regardless if you win or are beaten when you reflect you are always considering: ‘Where can we improve, where can we adjust?’ but that is different from questioning yourself.

“I want to emphasise I am responsible for the present defeats. You are answerable when you are victorious but also responsible when you are defeated. I can never provide enough reasons for us to have the results we have. That is not acceptable and I am to blame for that.”

The team's performance fell apart as Slot made several attacking substitutions when chasing the game. “It was the same on the road at Forest last season,” he remarked. “I substituted the French defender off and put on [Diogo] Jota and he found the net immediately to equalize at 1-1. Then it was courageous, now it’s likely stupid.”

The Anfield side previously were defeated in back-to-back at Anfield league fixtures against Nottingham Forest in 1963. The most recent occasion they lost back-to-back top-flight matches by a three-goal scoreline was in 1965.

Slot commented: “It was very bad. Competing on home soil, losing 3-0 regardless of which opponent you encounter is a terrible result. Surprising if you consider the first half-hour of the match. I did not witness us producing so many chances in the initial half-hour maybe the whole season, and the initial occasion they arrived in our box they found the back of the net.

“It wasn’t at City, but in every other fixture we have been the controlling team and were capable to create chances. Lately it is almost constantly that we miss our chances and the ones we allow go in.”
