Israelis have assembled throughout the country to mark 24 months since the Hamas-conducted offensive on October 7th, 2023, as discussions advanced in Egypt over an end to the war in Gaza.

The incident saw over 1,200 people killed and 251 others taken back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the most most fatal day for Jews since the Holocaust.

Israel responded by launching a military offensive in Gaza which has killed more than 67,000 people, according to the territory's Hamas-run health ministry. Its figures are seen as accurate by the United Nations and other global organizations.

"The violent opponents have caused great damage, but they have not defeated us," the prime minister remarked on that day.

He also vowed to "accomplish all the aims of the war: the homecoming of all the abducted, the destruction of the Hamas government and the assurance that Gaza will not pose a threat to Israel".

Remembrance Ceremonies Across Israel

The national leadership rescheduled formal memorials until October 16th - after the end of the Jewish High Holiday season - but events still took place across the country on Tuesday.

A memorial ceremony for the families of people killed in the Hamas incident was conducted in Tel Aviv. Arranged by the victims' relatives, it was aired across Israeli TV networks.

Hours earlier, a silent tribute was respected throughout the country.

Peace Talks in Egypt

Simultaneously, Israeli and Hamas delegations met in the Egyptian coastal city of the Egyptian city for a second day of third-party negotiations to review the conditions of the agreement.

A senior Palestinian official knowledgeable about the discussions indicated that an night meeting of indirect talks commenced at 7 PM local time.

The official explained the morning session finished without concrete outcomes, amid differences over the suggested Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over assurances Hamas seeks to guarantee Israel does not restart combat after the opening period of the agreement.

He commented that the discussions are "challenging and have yet to produce any major advancement," but pointed out that facilitators are making efforts to close the disparities between the conflicting groups.

Essential Points in Talks

  • A permanent halt to fighting
  • The swap of the hostages still kept by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The pullout of troops from Gaza
  • Measures for relief supplies deliveries
  • After-conflict management of the region

Civilian Feeling

In the city's memorial area that day, young a woman - whose sibling endured the attack on the gathering, where 378 people were murdered and numerous more were captured by Hamas militants - told: "No location feels like home now and until all the hostages come back not a single person will feel safe."

"After we see all home once more, we can breathe anew. Then we can commence heal," she added.

Outside the prime minister's home in the capital, people assembled to express their solidarity for the loved ones of the abducted. Israel reports 48 continue in detention in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are thought to be alive.

Demonstrator one woman explained: "We need do any agreement necessary for the abducted to be released. But we truly desire guarantees that we will be protected."

Opinion polls now regularly indicate that approximately 70% of the population prefer the hostilities to finish in exchange for the freedom of the captives.

Gaza Circumstances

At the location of the music event, grieving people came together to honor the dead.

From there, the boom of aerial bombardments and explosions could be heard just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where local people indicated the severe Israeli bombardment persisted.

In Gaza City, attacks were noted in the dawn of Tuesday in the west side Tal al-Hawa, sector and zone areas and in the east side area of the community, as well the camp to the northwestern area.

"Once the night comes, the fear appears with it," evacuated urban resident a local woman, whose 17-year-old son was lost his life by an Israeli bombing previously, described.

"My family are terrified of the air strikes. Throughout the evening we are lying together, clinging, especially my smallest child who puts his head on me all night."

"Constantly we monitor the updates to see developments. And I'm concerned that this truce will not be finalized and that the conflict will resume to us."

Health Crisis

Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City announced it had taken in the corpses of six people by the midday, including a trio who lost their lives in an Israeli attack in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

A different healthcare center in the southern city of that area reported additional dead people had been brought there. One of them was lost his life by Israeli forces while looking for help to the south region, health workers reported.
